Fadia Al-Otaibi - The Faculty of Sports Sciences at the University of Jordan, in cooperation with the Central Amman Civil Defense Directorate, held two lectures. The first was entitled “First Aid and Injuries" and was presented by First Lieutenant Maher Al-Maay'ah, while the second was entitled “How to Deal with a Fire" and was presented by First Lieutenant Mahmoud Obeidat, in the presence of the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at the College, Dr. Fatima Khreisat, The Deputy Director of Civil Defense in Central Amman, Lieutenant Colonel Mamoun Abu Zureiq, Major Rania Abu Salim from the Central Amman Defense Directorate, and a group of students from various university colleges and the local community attended.
The two lectures, which were mainly practical in nature and were held at the college headquarters, were held in celebration of the International Day of Civil Defense and Civil Protection, which falls on the first of March of each year. This day is celebrated in appreciation by the international community for the efforts made by civil defense agencies to preserve the security and safety of societies from the danger of natural and human disasters, and to reduce the tragic effects resulting from them.
The importance of the two lectures, according to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and supervisor of the activity, Dr. Fatima Khreisat, lies in the vital topics and themes they contain, which aim to consolidate and enhance a culture of preventative care among students, and to inform them of the most prominent emergency services in dealing with injuries, and the procedures followed in dealing with fire incidents, which are provided by the Civil Defense.
Khreisat explained that emergency services and preventative measures for dealing with injuries and fires have become essential services that students must be introduced to, encouraged to become familiar with, and upgraded to practice and apply them, in order to preserve the safety of their lives and property.
Khreisat expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Civil Defense Directorate in Central Amman for accepting the college's invitation and participating in the celebration of International Civil Defense Day by delivering two educational lectures.
In addition to theoretical information, the two lectures included specialized practical training provided by the lecturers to the students, helping them acquire professional skills that enable them to deal efficiently with cases of injuries or fires.
In recognition of the efforts made by the Civil Defense heroes to make the event a success and to organize it in a respectable manner, Khreisat, on behalf of the Dean of the College, Dr. Hassan Al-Saud, and in the presence of the representative of the Cultural Committee at the Women's Sports, Cultural and Social Club, Wafaa Al-Najjar, handed over an appreciation shield to Lieutenant Colonel Abu Zureiq, who in turn, representing the Directorate, thanked the College of Sports Sciences for the generous invitation, which in its content serves the interests of the students of the college and the university.
