Amman – Today, at the Deanship of Student Affairs in the Al-Hassan Auditorium, the University of Jordan witnessed the launch of the #SportoPedia platform. This platform, the first of its kind in Jordan, documents the history of university sports and highlights the achievements of student athletes within a modern digital record. It contributes to archiving their athletic careers and making them available for research and development.
The platform's launch is part of an initiative by the Sports Mythers team, participating in the English Language Olympiad (ELO) 2025 under the theme of sports. It is a collaborative effort involving the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the Deanship of Student Affairs, the Faculty of Sports Sciences, the Computer Center, and the Association of Faculties, Institutes, and Departments of Physical Education in the Arab World. The initiative was supported and supervised by Dr. Duaa Salameh from the Faculty of Foreign Languages, with the aim of providing a national database starting at the University of Jordan and later expanding to include other Jordanian and Arab universities.
The SportoPedia platform aspires to be a long-term research and archival project, contributing to the preservation of sporting achievements and providing a documented scientific reference for researchers and those interested in university sports. This will enhance the presence of Jordanian sports in the Arab world and give young people a platform to showcase their abilities.
The launch event also included a presentation and recognition of the student team: Malak Al-Jabouri, Tala Abu Khait, Lara Bani Melhem, Sadeel Bani Younes, Aseel Al-Lababidi, and Fares Yaqoub. Additionally, student Nayel Al-Nuaimat performed a poomsae demonstration, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Dr. Marwan Al-Jarrah, and his deputies, as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, her deputies, and assistants, along with several faculty members. Dr. Fatima Khraisat, the project liaison officer and Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences for Student and Graduate Affairs, emphasized that the platform's launch represents a national initiative that documents the history of athletes, creating a new narrative that gives champions a voice and preserves their achievements for future generations.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, sincere thanks and appreciation were extended to Dr. Mohammed Hindawi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Association of Colleges, Institutes, and Departments of Physical Education in the Arab World, for his continued support of the initiative and his role in enabling the project.
